Zusammenfassung: | Research has shown that Hyphomicrobium sp. degradation of dichloromethane in a fluidized-bed reactor is inhibited by the presence of sodium chloride. The influence of NaCl, at concentrations of 1 1000 mM, on the rate of dichloromethane degradation was investigated in both batch and continuous scaled trickling filters. The bacterial strain used was Hyphomicrobium GJ21, but the enrichment culture was not pure, so it was referred to as TF-enrichment culture. Results indicated that Hyphomicrobium GJ21 growth occurred below a NaCl concentration of 350 mM, while the activity of the TF-enrichment culture was less inhibited. For both cultures, dichloromethane degradation activity decreased with increasing NaCl concentrations. Above 600 mM NaCl, the microbial growth on dichloromethane by the TF-enrichment culture was completely inhibited. |
