Zusammenfassung:Cells of Pichia farinosa were immobilised in calcium alginate and K-Carrageenan and their ability to produce glycerol from glucose under aerobic conditions with acidic as well as alkaline pH was investigated. An average glycerol production rate of 0.07 g/l.h was obtained with immobilised cells (IMC) in shake flasks. Continuous glycerol production in a fluidised bed reactor (FBR) under steady state operation gave a glycerol concentration of 13.5 g/l in the product stream.
