Zusammenfassung: | The effects of chelating agents on metal uptake in plants were investigated by studying the effects of EDTA and nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) on okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) grown on soil containing lead concentrations of 0-1000 ug per g and irrigated with sewage water. Plants treated with lead had high levels of accumulation in the roots. The application of chelating agents significantly reduced the lead uptake. This was attributed to the formation of stable metal-chelate complexes which were poorly absorbed by plants. EDTA was the more effective chelating agent in reducing lead uptake. |
