Relative abundance and diet of Grundulus bogotensis (Characiformes: Characidae) in the Cundiboyacense plateau, Colombia

To compare the relative abundance of Grundulus bogotensis in two river basins and the diet of the populations of three basins in the Cundiboyacense plateau, 10 localities were sampled by electrofishing between March and June 2006. The relative abundance was evaluated using the Kruskal-Wallis test, and diet was quantified by the volumetric method. A total of 675 individuals were collected during 60 minutes of catch effort. The abundance of this species in the Bogota river was lower than in Suarez basin. Diet consisted primarily on immature insects and microcrustaceans. Data suggests that the most favorable conditions for the survival of this species occurred in Tota lake.
