Control of spawning time in rainbow trout, Salmo gairdneri, using constant long daylengths
Male and female rainbow trout ( Salmo gairdneri) were placed under a constant daylength of 18 h light : 6 h dark from some time before, or immediately after, their normal spawning season. This induced them to spawn again approximately 6 months later (i.e., 6 months earlier than normal). This was obs...

Zusammenfassung: | Male and female rainbow trout (
Salmo gairdneri) were placed under a constant daylength of 18 h light : 6 h dark from some time before, or immediately after, their normal spawning season. This induced them to spawn again approximately 6 months later (i.e., 6 months earlier than normal). This was observed under laboratory and farm conditions and may form the basis of a simple system for obtaining out-of-season eggs. A hypothesis is presented to explain this phenomenon. |
