Zusammenfassung: | The growth rate, food conversion ratio, protein efficiency ratio and other other growth characteristics of the cichlid O. n. niloticus fed during a 56-day study, on five different cottonseed-based artificial diets were evaluated against a diet containing fish meal. Fish fed the fish meal diet attained 81% weight gain over the experimental period and had the highest feed efficiency. The best growth rates and conversion efficiencies obtained with cottonseed diets containing a comparable level of protein to the fish meal control diet were much lower (31% weight gain). It appears that cottonseed meal as a feeding stuff will not by itself produce economically acceptable growth responses in O. n. niloticus . |
