Soil and water contamination at pesticide mixing and loading sites on Oahu, Hawaii

Soil samples were taken from pineapple and sugarcane pesticide mixing and loading sites and analysed for pesticide residues. Diuron, ametryn, hexazinone and DDT and its derivatives were found in both areas. Atrazine, and terbacil were found in soil from the sugarcane site, and bromacil at the pineapple site. Water from a well down gradient from the sugarcane area contained atrazine, ametryn and their de-ethylated derivatives. An up gradient well contained a lower concentration of atrazine and de-ethylated atrazine.
