Zusammenfassung: | Several methyl-, polymethyl- and other alkylpolychlorobibenzofurans were identified in sediments in bodies of water proximal to paper mills. The compounds were present at levels up to 1000 times higher than those of polychlorodibenzodioxins and polychlorodibenzofurans. Bioaccumulation studies suggest that the compounds are not concentrated in fish, but the levels in sediments were found to be good indicators for pulp bleaching activities. |
