Zusammenfassung:The effects of formulated ethyl parathion (F-DNTP), a phosphorated pesticide widely used in Argentina, on the fertilization of the sea urchin was investigated. The fertilization rate of the sea urchin fell rapidly with increaseing concentrations of F-DNTP. The fertilization rate at the F-DNTP level of 1.6 mu g/l generated a 90% decline in the fertilization rate when both the sperm and the eggs had been pretreated with the pesticide. The results suggest that low levels of F-DNTP may cause harmful effects on the fertilization of the sea urchin pseudoechinus magellanicus.
