Zusammenfassung: | Various sections of practically every designated wilderness must be managed differently because of varying conditions. Sustained opportunities to realize both wilderness benefits and resource preservation are more likely to be achieved if management zoning is planned explicitly, rather than informally and implicitly. The typical diversity of resources, uses, and conditions in wilderness areas means that few single areas can be managed uniformly. Experiences with managers and citizens in developing a wilderness opportunity zoning scheme for the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness, CO, has shown planners its utility in developing management prescriptions and in communicating with interested citizens. |
