Zusammenfassung:The interaction of pentachlorophenol (PCP) and phenol was analyzed in anaerobic laboratory digestors. The methanogenic fermentation of phenol was inhibited longer in the presence of low pcp concentrations than the methanogenic fermentation of volatile fatty acids. Pcp was found to be inhibitory to the methanogenic fermentation of phenol. This inhibition could be relieved if the pcp level was low enough for itself to undergo biodegradation.
