Toxicity of alpha-tomatine to larvae of the Mediterranean fruit fly (Diptera:Tephritidae)

Zusammenfassung:alpha -Tomatine, a glycoalkaloid present in solanaceous plants, exerts an antibiotic effect on Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) larvae. Increased concentrations of alpha -tomatine (25-200 ppm) resulted in decreased larval survival, lower pupal weights, and extended pupation period, and a prolonged period of adult emergence. The LC sub(50) for alpha -tomatine fed to C. capitata larvae was estimated to be 52.7 ppm.
