Zusammenfassung: | Reproduces the Pacific Research Protocols launched by the University of Otago, Nov 2011, which sets out the ethical standards and prescribed principles and procedures for university researchers in relation to research involving Pacific peoples in the Otago-Southland region, the rest of New Zealand, and, more generally, in the islands of Oceania. Responds to questions by referees from this journal as to why (1) there is no reference in the document to either Russell Bishop or Linda Tuhiwai Smith, given their significance as scholars examining the nature of research among indigenous peoples of the Pacific, and (2) whether the protocols go far enough in repositioning relations between researcher and researched, such that true equality is engendered and reflected in the research project.
