Zusammenfassung: | Recent research has shown that fish oil (or oil in fish), in addition to its role as a serum cholesterol depressant, also contains long-chain omega-3 fatty acids which may directly lower the risk of heart attacks. The only dietary source of these omega-3 fatty acids are fish flesh or fish oil. They can, at present, best be obtained by increasing consumption of fish in the diet. Efforts are underway to find an inexpensive way of producing fish oil concentrates for taking in capsule form. Until this happens, the best way to increase the omega-3 fatty acids in the human diet is to increase the consumption of fish. |
