Zusammenfassung:Analytical techniques used in the evaluation of environmental damage resulting from the accidental spill of TCDD in Seveso, Italy, in July 1976 are described. The use of low-resolution gas-liquid chromatography combined with mass spectrometry provided an accurate and sensitive assessment of TCDD persistence in the soil and vegetation at Seveso. Provided that adequate cleanup steps are taken, the use of low-resolution gas-liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry for TCDD detection at the ppt level is favorable.
