Zusammenfassung:	The history of asbestos use and associated environmental hazards from 2500 B.C. To the present is surveyed. Asbestos was used in the manufacture of pottery and clothing. Additional uses of the mineral were discovered from 1600 to the present, including the production of yarn and paper. Mining and production of asbestos has LED to recognition of the mineral's carcinogenic properties.
