Zusammenfassung:In expectation of large releases of gaseous tritium into the atmosphere as a result of nuclear fuel reprocessing, knowledge of the nature, site, and kinetics of the oxidation or exchange reaction converting gaseous tritium to tritiated water becomes important. Oxidation of elemental tritium is demonstrated in soil. The rapid rate of the reaction suggests that environmental levels pose the same problem that tritiated water vapor presents.
