Zusammenfassung:. A clinical syndrome characterized by blindness, loss of pigmentation, erratic swimming behaviour and increased mortality is described in cultured clownfish, Amphipnon ocellaris. Histopathological examination of affected fish revealed retinal degeneration, extensive ceroid deposits in visceral and muscle macrophage accumulations, and renal tubular calcium oxalate crystals. The syndrome is discussed in relation to deficiencies of the fat soluble vitamins A and E and lipid peroxidation. Changes in diet correcting these imbalances resulted in a disappearance of the syndrome.
