Relationship between nutrient concentration, phytoplankton density, and zooplankton density in nutrient enriched experimental ponds

The effects of different levels of nutrient input on the density of phytoplankton and zooplankton were investigated in a two-year controlled fertilization study of eight experimental ponds. Results showed an increase in inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus in the treated ponds, and a variable increase in phyto- and zooplankton. A limited relationship between the average chlorophyll a concentration per summer and the average cladoceran dry weight per summer is discussed.
