Determination of storm velocities as an aid to the quality control of recording rain-gauge data

The authors describe a technique for checking data from recording rain-gauges. A storm velocity is determined from a group of recording rain-gauges, and this velocity is used to deduce the speed with which storm features would pass individual rain-gauges; this speed is checked against the speeds measured directly from the hyetographs of those gauges. Some gauges may show large discrepancies and their data are rejected.
