Formation of toxic products from a No.2 fuel oil by photo-oxidation

Simulated environmental ultraviolet irradiation of a fuel oil was found to result in formation of relatively water-soluble oxygenated compounds toxic to baker's yeast, including reactive peroxides, carbonyl compounds, and phenols.
