Conversion of cephalosporin-C into 7-phenoxy-acetamido-cephalosporanic acid by acyltransferase of mutants of Penicillium chrysogenum

The authors have tested the acyl-transferase of penicillin producing grains and penicillin-less mutants of Penicillium chrysogenum for their ability to exchange the d- alpha -amino-adipic acid side chain of cephalosporin-C with phenoxyacetic acid. The reaction was found in both types of strains.
