Zusammenfassung: | The construction and testing of an apparatus to standardize the measurement of uptake efficiency of both waterborne contaminants and oxygen in conjunction with metabolic rate of unanesthetized rainbow trout (
Salmo gairdneri) of 60–110 g are described. Using radiolabeled methylmercury as the contaminant the apparatus gave consistent results. The uptake efficiency of methylmercury was found to be 7.1 ± 0.14% when oxygen uptake efficiency was 53.6 ± 0.01% and metabolic rate was above routine but within the scope of the fish at 9.26 ± 1.43 μg O
