Zusammenfassung: | Sorption of inorganic mercury in water onto bituminous coal and activated carbon was investigated in the laboratory. Some coal samples were observed to be comparable to activated carbon in mercury sorption. Chemical pretreatment of coal, e.g. nitric acid oxidation, sulfonation, and sulfurisation further improved the sorption capacity. Column studies indicated the feasibility of using coal for removing mercury from water supplies or industrial wastewater. |
