Inefficient accumulation of low levels of monodisposed and faeces-associated poliovirus in oysters

Studies on the uptake of poliovirus by oysters (Crassostrea virginica or Crassostrea gigas) and clams (Mercenaria mercenaria) showed that virus was accumulated by the shellfish only when the virus concentration in the water exceeded 0.01 PFU per ml. At high concentrations of virus, accumulation incr...

Zusammenfassung:Studies on the uptake of poliovirus by oysters (Crassostrea virginica or Crassostrea gigas) and clams (Mercenaria mercenaria) showed that virus was accumulated by the shellfish only when the virus concentration in the water exceeded 0.01 PFU per ml. At high concentrations of virus, accumulation increased with increasing concentration, for both dispersed and faeces-associated virus.
