Aluminum toxicity to fish in acidic waters

Detailed tabulated and graphical results are given of laboratory experiments on the toxicity of aluminium (up to 0.5 mg per litre) to eggs, larvae, and post-larvae of white suckers (Catostomus commersoni) and brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) in acid waters (pH 4.2-5.6). The effects were shown to be complex; toxicity varied with both pH value and life stage. Aluminium was most toxic in over-saturated solutions at pH 5.2-5.4.
