Zusammenfassung:Studies have been carried out to assess the usefulness of the sulphide ion-selective electrode for detecting and monitoring the growth of Desulphovibrio spp. in the presence of various sources of inorganic sulphur. The results are discussed, and it is concluded that this method can be used to monitor the sulphide produced by these bacteria, but an indirect technique is necessary to distinguish between the 'stationary' and 'death' phases of the bacteria.
