Regrowth of giant cutgrass ( Zizaniopsis miliacea) following cutting

Freshwater tidal marsh populations of giant cutgrass ( Zizaniopsis miliacea (Michx) Doell & Aschers.) often grow in monotypic stands. Cutting works best as a population control measure when applied in the late summer and fall and least in the winter and spring. Management of these populations for sustained yield requires that the grass blades be harvested during the winter or early spring when no permanent damage will be done to the populations.
