Zusammenfassung: | A water resources questionnaire evolved by the Water Resources Centre at Texas Tech University to assist small Texan communities to make the optimal use of their available water resources is described. The questionnaire, which was field-tested at 5 small communities in Texas during its development, stressed the importance of water conservation and re-use, and by seeking appropriate data aimed to illustrate the potential for water conservation (by proper operation of the water system and by modifying consumer habits), the value of reducing volumetric demand and peak demand, the scope for effluent re-use with or without treatment, and the importance of efficient management when planning for the future. The questionnaire addressed 4 components of the water regime - water supply; wastewater collection, treatment and disposal; stormwater management; and conservation. Experience to date indicated that the required data could be collected and collated by existing community officials, without the need to call in consultants, and that it could serve to modify water use practices to the advantage of individual communities and of the wider area in which they are situated. |
