Analysis of non-ortho poychlorinated biphenyls and polychlorinated naphthalenes in Swedish dioxin survey samples

Tabulated and graphical data are presented on the concentrations of 3coplanarpolychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and polychlorinated naphthalenes in marine and freshwater fish and in a lake sediment in Sweden. Baltic herring showed seasonal differences in the concentrations of these compounds. Differences in the concentrations and isomer patterns between the lake sediment and pike from the lake indicated that metabolism and bio-accumulation were recurring. It was estimated that the toxic potential of PCB in most of the fish samples more than equalled that of polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and dibenzofurans.
