Zusammenfassung: | The modified elutriate test and laboratory column settling test were been used to predict the release of PCB into the effluent prior to dredging highly contaminated sediments in the harbour at New Bedford, Mass. An average dissolved PCB concentration of 4.8 ug per litre was obtained, which was close to the predicted value of 7.5 ug per litre. The average total concentration (28 ug per litre) was less than the predicted value (65 ug per litre) because the average effluent suspended solids was less than the predicted value due to dredge operational problems. However, there was evidence to suggest that the modified elutriate test was a useful prediction tool. |
