Phagocytosis of Pseudomonas aeruginosa by feline alveolar macrophages: strain differences in nonimmune serum

Phagocytosis of three strains of P. aeruginosa by cat alveolar macrophages was compared by applying Michaelis-Menten kinetics to analyze the phagocytic process. The rate constant derived from such analyses showed marked differences in both the V sub(max) and Km. Variant bacterial properties among the three strains may be responsible for the observed differences in the rate constants.
