Zusammenfassung: | Levels of contamination and genetic damage associated with radiocaesium were studied in catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) from the cooling pond at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and a reference site in the Ukraine. Percent double-stranded DNA and number of micronuclei were greatest in fish from the control site. Fish from the cooling pond showed greater genetic damage than those from the reference site. Radiocaesium concentration, length and weight were greatest in fish from the cooling pond. The genetic damage was greatest in the liver. Gill tissue had the least number of strand breaks for fish from both sites. There are 51 references. |
