Zusammenfassung: | The National-led government adheres strongly to the basic principles of New Zealand foreign policy. It is a staunch advocate of an independent approach and offers a strong voice on matters of global importance. Apart from building better relationships internationally, it has as its main focus the promotion of economic growth. New Zealand can only get wealthy selling things to the rest of the world. It must aim to deliver high quality in what it does and achieve high levels of intellectual property and innovation. This is not a straightforward process and demands a concerted effort, which is currently not made easier by the need to deal with the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquake.
