Non-operative management of uncomplicated acute appendicitis: using antibiotics is effective and decreases morbidity

Findings The pooled results indicated with moderate evidence using the GRADE criteria that antibiotic treatment was associated with significantly lower complications, equivalent length of hospital stay and no increased risk in the development of complicated appendicitis in patients with uncomplicated acute appendicitis compared with appendectomy. [...]although no pooled analysis was performed by Varadhan and colleagues, two other meta-analyses 2 3 have shown that there was also a significant reduction in sick leave/disability and pain medication use in the antibiotic group.
