Endovascular treatment of early recurrent ischemic stroke following intravenous thrombolysis

Abstract A 65-year-old man improved significantly during intravenous thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) for acute stroke due to thrombotic occlusion of the basilar artery apex. Early recurrent ischemic stroke (ERIS), that is, an acute ischemic stroke of an initially not...

Zusammenfassung:Abstract A 65-year-old man improved significantly during intravenous thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) for acute stroke due to thrombotic occlusion of the basilar artery apex. Early recurrent ischemic stroke (ERIS), that is, an acute ischemic stroke of an initially not involved and independent arterial territory, occurs in 0.59% [1] to 2.6% [2] of patients undergoing intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) [1-8]. [...]to the best of our knowledge, this patient is the first who have been reported to have undergone successful IVT for basilar thrombosis and MCA endovascular recanalization for ERIS.
