Zusammenfassung: | Discusses the debate between the German art historian Frank Zöllner and his Italian colleague Roberto Zapperi surrounding the dating of Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" and the identification of the woman depicted in the painting. Examines primary sources relating to the argument, including newly rediscovered evidence in the collection of the library of the University of Heidelsberg in Germany. The Heidelberg work, a copy of Cicero's "Epistulae ad familiares," features a margin note dated October 1503 by the Florentine clerk Agostino Vespucci who states that Leonardo painted a portrait of Lisa del Giocondo. |
