Zusammenfassung:The solubilities of six nonionic azo dyes in water and PET were determined and the thermodynamic parameters responsible for solubility calculated. The solubilities in water are small and governed by the mixing enthalpy ΔHM. Solubilities in PET are appreciably greater and none of the parameters ΔG F , ΔHM , ΔSg, ΔS D predominate. The mixing enthalpy does not play any particular role in PET and, contrary to Hil debrand, cannot be predicted satisfactorily from solubility parameters.
