Effects of postnatal environmental tobacco smoke on non-nutritive swallowing-breathing coordination in newborn lambs

Highlights ► Lambs are exposed to a unique mixture of primary, secondary and tertiary smoke. ► Whole cigarette smoke is used instead of only nicotine. ► No effect of cigarette smoke on respiratory rate, heart rate, apnea and sigh index. ► Non-nutritive swallowing activity is mildly affected.
