Zusammenfassung: | The purpose of this paper is to examine various linguistic issues that arose during the development of multimedia software for children Juia ch 'anani p 'urhe jimpo (Let's play in Purepecha). First, we describe the communication challenges implied in the development of multimedia educational materials in indigenous languages. Second, we analyze the specific solutions to several language and communication problems, related to the choice of written language, variation and lexical elaboration, as well as the solutions proposed for each case by the multidisciplinary team in charge of the project. Finally, we discuss the modernization effort implied in this work. This analysis starts a debate on the various mechanisms through which speakers confront communication challenges that arise in the field of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and discern possible trends of linguistic change.
