The New Center As A Remedy For The Problems Of Lodz

The article seeks to analyse the socio-spatial organisation of the centre of Lodz as a key part of the city from the perspective of its historical, social and urban development. First, the process of urban spatial formation of the city and its centre is presented, including all subsequent stages. The introduction to the problem is followed by the review of the current situation in Lodz based on visual material gathered, with reference to the five basic forms of spatial order. Further parts of the article contain a description of a specific plan aimed at revitalisation of the so-called "New Centre of Lodz" as a formal recipe for socio-spatial renewal of this part of the city. Finally, conclusions are proposed, based on subjective assessment of the current state of the city centre and prospective effectiveness of the recovery plan for it. Adapted from the source document.
