Zusammenfassung:The activities of lignans and neolignans which directly or indirectly affect the cardiovascular system are reviewed. The results from molecular screening methods and animal models are included and an attempt to identify the molecular features which might influence some of the activities is made. The question of the benefit of low levels of circulating lignans in an organism is considered.
