Zusammenfassung: | Accounts and files of warrants, receipts and indentures brought to the Exchequer by the accountants shed light on the financial administration of Calais during 1399-1413, the reign of Henry IV of England. Calais is known to have been expensive to maintain and defend, especially in the middle of the reign of Henry IV. In 1406-07 a crisis arose as the garrison mutinied because of lack of payment. The arrangement of 1407 should be viewed in proper context. A flexible, efficient system appears to have existed when outside political influences did not offer interference. Cash was available as needed. |
