Zusammenfassung: | The expansion of capital in the modern global economy relentlessly exploits, deprives and displaces indigenous communities who depend for survival on traditional forms of agriculture. Globally, 'ecological ethnicity' is now beginning to assert autonomy and challenge state power, as a conscious rural environmentalism gives voice to the connection between ecology and social justice and claims the right to land as a prerequisite for the preservation of traditional culture. Examines the resurgence of ecological ethnicities in the adivasi belt of middle India, the region of Chiapas in Mexico, and global alliances of indigenous peoples. |
