Problems with the British Problem

A review article discussing Uniting Kingdom? The Making of British History edited by A. Grant and K. J. Stringer, Conquest and Union. Fashioning a British State, 1485-1725 edited by S. G. Ellis and S. Barber, and The British Problem, c.1534-1707. State Formation in the Atlantic Archipelago edited by B. Bradshaw and J. Morrill. Although these books show the value of taking a whole British approach, the essays also supply much ammunition for those who have doubts about the validity of the new British history.
