'Singing for his supper': The reinvention of juvenile streetsinging in early modern Nuremberg

Harrington examines the history of the custom of juvenile streetsinging in Nuremberg and how the government attempted to suppress the custom. Governmental regulation of the custom not only failed to achieve the desired result of eliminating begging, but also contributed to the growing social, economic, and cultural polarization of its own populace.
