Zusammenfassung: | In 2008, 50 copper coins were recovered from a small coastal area north of Carnforth. All but one were large-flanned radiates and most were issued by the British rebels Carausius and Allectus (AD 286-296) in the very late Roman period; this is the first firm example of an Allectus-hoard in northwest England. The coins are not in good condition, but they suggest that Roman defences in this part of the coastline may have been more extensive and coherent than previously thought. |
