Zusammenfassung:Discusses a bronze inkwell, in the form of a kneeling youth supporting an urn, in the style of the Venetian sculptor Girolamo Campagna (1549-1621), held in the private collection of Mrs Alexandre P. Rosenberg of New York. Taking account of contextual evidence and a recent microscopic and spectroscopic examination, concludes that there is no final proof that Campagna himself, or even his workshop, created the inkwell in the Rosenberg Collection. Rather, it and some of its cognates elsewhere should be admired as stock models in the inimitable style of this master sculptor that were produced commercially for domestic use in one of the independent bronze foundries that flourished in Venice during the last quarter of the cinquecento.
