Electron-impact dissociative excitation of S sub(2)

Electron-impact dissociation of S sub(2) has been studied by observation of the atomic emission features in the vacuum ultraviolet spectral region between 120 and 170 nm. The predominantly S sub(2) targets were prepared by passing either S sub(8) or CS sub(2) through a microwave discharge. The excit...

Zusammenfassung:Electron-impact dissociation of S sub(2) has been studied by observation of the atomic emission features in the vacuum ultraviolet spectral region between 120 and 170 nm. The predominantly S sub(2) targets were prepared by passing either S sub(8) or CS sub(2) through a microwave discharge. The excitation function of the S [3s super(2)3p super(4)-3s super(2)3p super(3)( super(2)D degree )4s, super(3)P- super(3)D degree ] emission multiplet has been measured at 147.4 nm for electron-impact energies from below threshold to 370 eV. From appearance energy measurements in the near-threshold region, likely fragmentation channels are identified.
