Zusammenfassung: | Spam e‐mail management in universities differs from that in enterprises with a uniform and strict network policy, and requires the guarantee of a free mail environment policy. In this paper, we report findings from an operational experiment on spam e‐mail filtering based on volunteer application of users. In particular, management of the electronic mail (e‐mail) delivery delay problem was undertaken in view of the state of e‐mail usage at our university. We also discuss an ideal method of spam mail filtering in universities and in research institutes under a free mail environment policy. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
